Benefits of Owning a Miniature Golden Retriever

If you are looking for a dog that has an excellent personality and one that is great with kids and other animals, you might want to consider purchasing a Miniature Golden Retriever.  While there is no such breed, when this breed is bred down by professionals, a smaller version of the breed can be produced.  With this, the result is what is referred to as a “Miniature Golden Retriever.”

Because the Miniature Golden Retriever is a hybrid, it is not yet considered a purebred.  Even so, many top breeders around the country are working hard to refine the breeding process and work with the American Kennel Club (AKC) to change this.  To produce this particular breed, the standard size Golden Retriever is crossed with the Poodle and Cocker Spaniel.

Because of this, the Miniature Golden Retriever has the appearance of the larger breed, as well as most characteristics, but it also has characteristics of both the Poodle and Cocker Spaniel.  For instance, since Poodles do not shed, many of the smaller Golden Retrievers shed less than a purebred of this breed does.  For people with allergies or asthma, this is a nice improvement.

Interestingly, all three breeds involved to create the Miniature Golden Retriever love water so you can imagine that keeping this dog out of the water is very difficult.  As far as temperament, this is shared among the breeds.  As an example, a standard Golden Retriever is very gentle, loving, and a great dog for kids and other animals.  However, Cocker Spaniels do not do as well as the Golden Retriever as far as children.  Then with Poodles, they can also be somewhat nippy but they are sweet and loving.

This means the temperament and personality of the Miniature Golden Retriever is a little bit of each although the prominent genes of the Retriever typically stand out.  Of course, each breeder and dog is going to be slightly different.  In other words, you might choose a puppy from one breeder and discover that the personality is definitely more of a Golden Retriever but then choose a puppy from another breeder and find it reflects more as a Cocker Spaniel or Poodle.

Because the Miniature Golden Retriever is a hybrid, it is imperative to purchase puppies from only top breeders.  These breeders understand the importance of balancing the three breeds so you end up with more of a smaller version of the larger breed for the Golden Retriever.  Otherwise, choosing just any breeder or a hobbyist could lead to trouble.  You might end up with a dog that looks like a small version of the bigger breed but one that has been inbred so much that it has a lot of bad behaviors.

Just as with any dog, the Miniature Golden Retriever needs to be taken care of in a loving and safe home.  Additionally, training would be helpful to include potty training and more.  Then, since you would not be breeding the dog, we strongly recommend you have him or her neutered or spayed.
