Mini Lop Bunnies

Insightful Information about Mini Lop Bunnies

Mini Lop bunnies are also referred to as German Lop bunnies.  This particular species has a larger body and the head is block-shaped.  While all bunny breeds are cute, this particular breed is considered one of the cutest.  Because the ears fall down toward the ground, or lop, this bunny has a sweet appearance that is unlike any other type of bunny bred.

Another benefit of owning Mini Lop bunnies is that the size at maturity is smaller than other bunny breeds.  In addition, because these bunnies are cuddly and gentle when raised in a loving home, they make a great pet for smaller children.  The smaller size and personality make these easy animals to handle so they make great family pets.

After being around Mini Lop bunnies for any amount of time, you would quickly discover that this is a smart and active breed.  Therefore, the entire family can enjoy cuddle time or simply enjoy watching the bunnies as they play and investigate different areas of the yard or home.  Interestingly, while all bunnies can be litter box trained, Mini Lop bunnies are considered one of the easiest.

For someone living in a small house, apartment, condominium, or someone with limited physical ability would love owning and raising Mini Lop bunnies.  Because they are small, they do not need overly large cages and in fact, two bunnies could easily share one cage.  Obviously, bunnies do not need to be walked, they take up little space, they are easy to feed, and when litter box trained, they make an excellent house pet.

As far as diet for Mini Lop bunnies, they eat much the same food as any bunny does.  For instance, the bunnies would need a daily diet of bunny pellets, which can be purchased at any pet store or pet supply store.  In addition, bunnies need a small amount of Timothy hay every other day, which is also sold in the same stores.  Of course, a daily bowl of fresh fruit and vegetables is also important.

For instance, Mini Lop bunnies love fresh apples, bananas, broccoli, carrots, asparagus, celery, bell peppers, and some even like grapes.  Typically, you would provide the basic diet and then experiment to see what fruits and vegetables your bunnies prefer.  After all, just like humans, bunnies also have some foods they like and some they are not as fond of so you will need to offer several foods to determine which ones your bunnies love.

Mini Lop bunnies need proper bedding too.  In addition to providing a soft place to sleep, bedding is also important for absorbing urine.  The best setup would be using liners for the bottom of the cage and then adding a layer of bunny bedding.  Then, in the corner where the bunny uses the bathroom (if not liter box trained), provide a layer of cedar or pine chips.  Finally, unless you plan to breed and sell your bunnies, they should be spayed or neutered and they need annual shots to keep them healthy and strong.
